Philosophy
Isadora Duncan from The Art of the Dance expresses, Every part of life should be practiced as an art... the whole expression for our life must be created through culture and the transformation of intuition and instinct into art. The dancer's body is simply the luminous manifestation of the soul.
MaryBeth says on Teaching: I do not teach students to shape their bodies into an outer ideal of what a dancer should look like - we must learn to dance first from first looking inwardly - to tap into the rhythms of our own Selves and dance the embodied stories that are natural and meaningful - always in keeping with the age and time in accordance with each growing stage.
Isadora speaking on the essential components for the education of the child, Surround a child with beauty and speak only of beautiful ideas.
Contained within the class work and choreographies of Duncan Dance are the "philosophers stone" of dancing. To be so fully engaged within a moment in time and space that the individual opens a gateway into other worlds and understands the connections therein. Out of this experience whole new worlds are created, formed and shared.
The work I am most interested in at this time are creative, movement based programs designed to raise the consciousness of individuals to include how we relate to ourselves and interact with others as well as the environment. This I feel is of the utmost importance as I sense we are coming up to the place of "critical mass" in our culture where these ideas must begin to manifest in everyday life, or what we have gained up to this point is in danger of being lost.
We must begin to shape a new reality based on Wisdom that is both ancient and contemporary. To act in loving ways inwardly from a source of mindfulness will enable us as indivduals to act in natural loving ways outwardly. Discovering one's ideal self allows for the greatest good to shine through. To experience a balanced mind, body and spirit thus manifesting beauty, truth and love.
